Shirky made this statement to illustrate his point that all creativity exists on a continuum between doing nothing and doing anything. Thus, the stupidest possible creative act is still something. \u00c2\u00a0Media today allows more people reach wider audiences. The definition of &#8220;Cognitive Surplus&#8221; is basically this: our uncommitted time. While, I agree that doing something is frequently better than doing nothing&#8230;its hard to wade through all the stupidity to find the gems. Maybe that&#8217;s always been true, but in the past low quality stuff didn&#8217;t make it to print.
