{"id":3042,"date":"2016-02-14T23:56:53","date_gmt":"2016-02-15T05:56:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.splasmata.com\/?p=3042"},"modified":"2016-02-22T16:46:32","modified_gmt":"2016-02-22T22:46:32","slug":"mac-app-store-users-cant-open-our-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.splasmata.com\/?p=3042","title":{"rendered":"Mac App Store users can&#8217;t open our applications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First, <strong>your data is safe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Second,\u00c2\u00a0<strong>you won&#8217;t\u00c2\u00a0have to purchase another copy of the application.<\/strong> \u00c2\u00a0If you get to a point where it looks like you&#8217;ll need to purchase again, <strong>please get in touch with us<\/strong> at <a href=\"mailto:support@splasm.com\">support@splasm.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning February 14th, many of our users who purchased from the Mac App Store have experienced an issue where the application crashes while opening. \u00c2\u00a0What we know, so far, is this is <strong>another<\/strong> certificate issue on Apple&#8217;s end, preventing applications from properly validating a Mac App Store receipt. \u00c2\u00a0Again, <strong>your data is safe.<\/strong> \u00c2\u00a0The issue is with the application, but your\u00c2\u00a0data lives in a separate document and will come right up\u00c2\u00a0when the application begins working properly.<\/p>\n<p>The official word from Apple is that, in general, restarting the Mac in question should resolve the issue. \u00c2\u00a0In addition, for OS X El Capitan users, Apple says updating\u00c2\u00a0to OS X 10.11.2 or later is required, and OS X Snow Leopard users should be sure the Mac App Store Update for OS X Snow Leopard\u00c2\u00a0is installed. \u00c2\u00a0While the situation we\u00c2\u00a0have here\u00c2\u00a0is technically similar to what happened last November, it&#8217;s not quite the same and, being on Apple&#8217;s end, not something we could&#8217;ve prepared for. \u00c2\u00a0The good news is Apple has renewed the certificates involved in validating Mac App Store receipts through at least 2023, so we won&#8217;t see circumstances like this for some time, if ever. \u00c2\u00a0Thank you for your patience and understanding!<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve learned\u00c2\u00a0a restart does not always resolve the issue &#8211; <strong>reinstalling the application itself does. \u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>Even if you&#8217;ve already reinstalled, <strong>please follow each step below<\/strong> to be sure the reinstallation is performed correctly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DO NOT USE A THIRD-PARTY TOOL, LIKE CLEANMYMAC, TO REMOVE AN APPLICATION BEFORE REINSTALLING.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Repeat: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>DO NOT USE A THIRD-PARTY TOOL, LIKE CLEANMYMAC, TO REMOVE AN APPLICATION BEFORE REINSTALLING.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>To reinstall one of our applications:<\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click the <strong>Finder<\/strong> icon on your <strong>Dock<\/strong>, the row of icons that&#8217;s usually at the bottom of your screen.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the <strong>Go<\/strong> menu at the very top of your screen, above all open windows, and click the <strong>Applications<\/strong> menu item.<\/li>\n<li>Drag the application icon <strong>(not the entire Applications folder &#8211; just the application you need to reinstall)<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0to the <strong>Trash<\/strong>. \u00c2\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">This is the only item you need to drag to the Trash or delete from your Mac.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If the application icon just snapped back to where it was before you dragged it to the Trash, you may be in Launch Pad instead of the Applications folder. \u00c2\u00a0Please go back to step 1.<\/li>\n<li>Restart your Mac.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the Mac App Store, click the <strong>Purchased<\/strong> button at the top of the window, and click the <strong>Install<\/strong> button next to the application. \u00c2\u00a0<strong>Be sure<\/strong> you&#8217;re signed in with the same Apple ID used to purchase the application by going to the <strong>Store<\/strong> menu at the top of the screen, above all open windows. \u00c2\u00a0If you don&#8217;t see your purchase, it may be hidden. \u00c2\u00a0Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT202320\">https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT202320<\/a> to learn how to access hidden purchases.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Reinstalling from the Mac App Store should completely resolve the issue, so if it\u00c2\u00a0doesn&#8217;t, please go back\u00c2\u00a0to step 1 and try to reinstall once more.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Using a version from our website should work around the issue <strong>but it&#8217;s a last resort,<\/strong> particularly for CheckBook and CheckBook Pro users. \u00c2\u00a0Installing the opposite version of CheckBook from\u00c2\u00a0what you&#8217;ve been using will result in the appearance that all data has been lost <strong>but<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0it&#8217;s just that the two apps don&#8217;t know where the other stores its data and when you get the proper version installed everything will appear as before. \u00c2\u00a0If you need to go this route to get back in business, please do so, <strong>just<\/strong> <strong>be very certain that if you use CheckBook or CheckBook Pro you download and install the same:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Audiobook Builder: \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.splasm.com\/downloads\/audiobookbuilder\/Audiobook%20Builder.dmg\">http:\/\/www.splasm.com\/downloads\/audiobookbuilder\/Audiobook Builder.dmg<\/a><\/li>\n<li>CheckBook <strong>(be certain your current copy of CheckBook has a green pen in its icon before installing this)<\/strong>: \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.splasm.com\/downloads\/checkbook\/CheckBook.dmg\">http:\/\/www.splasm.com\/downloads\/checkbook\/CheckBook.dmg<\/a><\/li>\n<li>CheckBook Pro\u00c2\u00a0<strong>(be certain your current copy of CheckBook Pro has a blue\u00c2\u00a0pen in its icon before installing this)<\/strong>: \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.splasm.com\/downloads\/checkbook\/CheckBook%20Pro.dmg\">http:\/\/www.splasm.com\/downloads\/checkbook\/CheckBook Pro.dmg<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Return Labels: \u00c2\u00a0we&#8217;re sorry, but a version isn&#8217;t available from our website. \u00c2\u00a0Please get in touch with us at <a href=\"mailto:support@splasm.com\">support@splasm.com<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0Thank you!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First, your data is safe.
