It’s been\u00c2\u00a0on our radar for quite a while but we were flat\u00c2\u00a0stumped because it never happened\u00c2\u00a0on any of our Macs.<\/p>\n

Until yesterday.<\/strong> \u00c2\u00a0A very helpful user reported the error and almost immediately they realized it was only happening when their Mac’s display went to sleep during the import. \u00c2\u00a0So we set a Mac to let its displays sleep after\u00c2\u00a01 minute and\u00c2\u00a0bingo!<\/strong><\/p>\n

A couple of hours of testing on various versions of macOS later and now we know: \u00c2\u00a0since OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion\u00c2\u00a0no process can eject a\u00c2\u00a0CD\u00c2\u00a0while the display is asleep without resorting to brute force. \u00c2\u00a0We’re not brutish so…<\/p>\n

Wait.<\/strong> \u00c2\u00a0Are we?<\/em><\/p>\n

Of course not.<\/strong> \u00c2\u00a0And so a\u00c2\u00a0most elegant fix is on the way: \u00c2\u00a0Audiobook Builder 1.5.7<\/a> will prevent the display from sleeping while it’s importing a\u00c2\u00a0disc, but not while it’s waiting for the next\u00c2\u00a0disc. \u00c2\u00a0That way it’ll be able to eject discs just like old times – and your display will still sleep if, while waiting for the next disc, your Mac is left idle the requisite time per your Energy Saver settings.<\/p>\n
