” I once listened to Stewart Onan’s novel Last Night at the Lobster with the tracks in the wrong order.
The story kept shifting times and locations, but I thought Onan had just written it that way. Another time, I skipped an entire disk in Edward Rutherfurd’s Princes of Ireland without knowing it. I just thought the plot was speeding up, until one character never returned. And I can’t tell you how many chapters I’ve heard two or three times because I either couldn’t find my place or remember if I’d heard that bit yet.
